Jump Head-First

Thursday, July 13, 2017

I've been taking photography classes since high school. It's always something that I've had an interest in, specifically lifestyle photography. There's something that I love about capturing someones special moments, whether it's a mom and her new baby, or a newly engaged couple, there's something so wonderful about a single moment frozen in time.

At the beginning of the year Daniel bought me a very nice Canon camera, along with a couple of lenses. I've used the camera here and there to take my own maternity photos and when Kensington arrived, to take newborn pictures of her. I always tossed around the idea of turning my hobby into something more, but I was always too nervous.

I constantly found myself comparing photos that I had taken to the ones I saw other people posting. Sometimes I would see a picture and think, I could definitely do that. And other times I'd see other people's photos and think, I'll never take pictures as good as them.

It was comparison that was keeping me from furthering something that I truly felt I could be passionate about. Until this week.

This week I decided to jump head-first into this new venture. I launched Kensington Grace Photography on Facebook on Monday and so far the responses have been amazing.

I realized that I can't not do something just because someone may be better at it then I am, or because I'm too afraid.

Taking pictures makes me happy. Being there for people's most special moments makes me happy. And if my work can make someone else happy, then that's all the more reason to put myself out there.

This week, let go of fear and comparison and choose to jump head-first into whatever makes you happiest. I know I will be.
