Spending Your Spring

Monday, March 06, 2017

The first day of Spring is just two weeks away.

Despite the fact that California has been so incredibly confused about the weather lately, I can finally see it in the not-so-distant future. We've had so many cold and rainy days in the past two months that it felt like it would never get here, but this week we've got a few eighty-degree days in the forecast and I'm ready to take full advantage of it.

If you're anything like me and grasping on to any glimpse of sunny days, here are my suggestions for how I think you should be spending them.

1. Find a new walking path. If you're concerned about a few light rain showers, consider buying the cutest umbrella to take along with you.

2. Make a vacation board on Pinterest. Spring is wonderful, but Summer is right around the corner and there's never a bad time to start planning a dream trip.

3. Re-organize something. Open up your windows, let the light in and organize something! Yesterday I went through my closet and put away all of my pre-maternity clothes that don't fit anymore. It felt great.

4. Plant a garden. We only have a small patio space, but a quick trip to Ikea can be the perfect place to find the cutest tiny pot holders to make the most out of whatever size space you've got to work with.

5. Make fruit water. Try different combinations like blueberry lemon or strawberry orange and see which flavors you like the best.

6. Find a local farmers market and spend the morning picking out fresh foods.

7. Start a new planning system. There's something so refreshing about Spring. I think it's the perfect time to try out a new way to plan your days. I've decided to give the bullet journal a try. I'm starting with this notebook and a few pretty pens to see where it will take me.

8. Go to a drive-in movie.

9. Buy some new nail polish. Spring is the perfect time for pretty pastels. Try this color, or this one

10. Send someone a card, just because. Let them know you're thinking about them.

11. Go for a bike ride.

12. Plan out your Summer reading list. Pool season will be here before you know it and you'll want to have plenty of books ready to go.

13. Buy some flamingo straws and pretend like you're on a tropical vacation in your own home.

14. Find a few new salad recipes. I always feel like eating lighter when it's the start of the Spring season. Salads are easy and quick go to meals and you can pretty much put anything you want on them!

15. Do all your laundry. Fold and put away everything, make a donation pile and get rid of the excess.

16. If you can, make a trip to the beach.

17. Do some meal prepping. Daniel and I are doing this, especially with the baby coming in May. We bought a new freezer last weekend and I've been making double of most of our meals lately to put one or two into the freezer to make again later. Yesterday I made individual servings of this copycat Zuppa Toscana.

18. Spend an afternoon just sitting outside and reading. Whether this is at your home or a local park, just grab a blanket, pick a spot, and spend the day.

19. Go on an ice cream date. Bring your significant other, bring your mom or bring your best friend and go find your new favorite ice cream flavor.

20. Pre-write some blog posts. Have a few ready to go for when you get a little too busy to do any writing.

21. Buy new bed sheets. In the winter I always buy flannel sheets from Target, but in the Spring it gets a little too warm and I find myself looking for lighter options for our bedroom.

22. Plan a digital detox. Whether its for a day or only a couple of hours, spend a little time without any digital distractions.

23. Find the perfect pair of sunglasses to match with your new Spring wardrobe.  I vote these heart shaped ones
