Embrace the Community

Friday, June 17, 2016

This morning as I was scrolling through blogs and catching up with some of my favorite online friends, I stumbled across a blog I'd never been to before. I was immediately drawn in by the blog design and the categories across the page that were all just waiting to be clicked on.

And then I got down a little to her most recent blog post. It was a post about loss, about grieving and it was possibly one of the saddest things I've ever read in my life. I'm not kidding when I say that at 6:30 this morning I was crying over the post of a complete stranger.

The blogging community is something that continues to amaze me. Without even knowing this blogger, I felt more connected to her then I have in the past with people I'm supposedly friends with. I wanted to hug her and tell her everything would be okay, because I would hope that someone would want to do that for me too in a similar situation. She had comment after comment of uplifting words and thoughts from readers around the world, just reminding her that she wasn't alone even if she felt like she might be.

Bloggers are an awesome group of people. We can celebrate together, laugh together, cry together, and share things that may be some of our most personal thoughts and feelings; and rather then receive judgment we can find support in a community that is unlike any other.

Today I am thankful for my blog friends, and for my real life friends, and for all the people I'm still yet to meet. This community is one that has surprised me, and I am so grateful for a place that looks for the light in the darkness. I hope we never lose that light.

Happy Friday, friends.

  1. This is spot on! People who don't blog might not get it (I know before I started my blog and was just a reader and bloggers would say "the blogging community" I kind of rolled my eyes) but it's really so true.
